Why choose Sustainable Wood?

In 2017, the ABC aired ‘The War on Waste‘, showing us the magnitude of Australian refuse. With major companies and local councils starting to get on board, the sustainable consumer is really standing to attention!

When we first started, we looked around the world at all the places we could get the products made the way we wanted them. To be honest, we started with China. Who wouldn’t? When we asked ‘can the products be made from  sustainably sourced wood?’ They answered: ‘Ofcourse, it will last a lifetime!’

Now that may, technically be a true ‘sustainable’ statement, it just doesn’t fit with what we really mean by sustainably sourced – that is, the wood is from forests which planted for re-growth.

Sustainable means wood which

has been harvested responsibly

The fact that our games will look good on your coffee table for decades as they last forever (or at least ‘a lifetime’ as the Chinese advised), is an added bonus, but it is not the intended meaning when we speak of sustainable wood.

More parents seek alternative options when engaging with their children, many wanting screen-free downtime and get kids away from devices such as Tablets, PC’s, handheld devices, TV’s and Mobile Phones. We believe giving them our wooden games and puzzles not only engages their minds and is tactile (feels lovely so they want to keep playing), but helps keep our earth cleaner and healthier. A worthy goal. (Though almost as hard as getting kids off their screens).

What is Sustainable Forestry?

Sustainable Forestry means more than just replanting – it means the surrounding environment including the wildlife such as birds and animals (fauna) and the trees and plants (flora) suffer no ecological damage. Now that may, technically be a true sustainable statement, it just doesn’t fit with what we really mean by sustainably sourced – that is, the wood is from forests which have been specifically planted for re-growth.

When we asked China 'is the wood sustainably sourced?' They answered: "Ofcourse, it will last a lifetime!'

Plant new trees

The Toy Fair in New York in 2018 also identified nostalgic brands that can be enjoyed by families will be a stand-out trend – this was backed up by two of our newest line up quickly becoming ‘fan favourites’ – Chinese Checkers and Snakes and Ladders. – all made from sustainably sourced wood in Thailand.

So if you want to give a gift worth keeping, ethically sourced, environmentally friendly and love a challenge, there is something here for you.

When we started Wolfpack Games we wanted to sell products we are proud of.

We think we have achieved this.

Join us in support of a healthy planet.
